A shocking incident occurred in the Kuberpur region, where a groom’s demand for dowry led to the bride calling off the wedding after the rituals. The dispute began over a request for a Bullet motorcycle, which escalated, and the bride, after the wedding rituals, wiped off her sindoor and refused to marry. The baraat (wedding procession) returned without the bride.

Incident Details: The baraat arrived from Delhi to the Kuberpur area in Etmadpur on Saturday for a wedding ceremony. After the exchange of garlands, the wedding rituals began. The groom filled the bride's maang (hair parting) with sindoor after the pheras (rounds). However, immediately after the ceremony, the groom demanded a Bullet motorcycle as part of the dowry. The bride's family expressed their inability to meet this demand, but the groom remained adamant.

Bride's Rejection: As the farewell ceremony was about to begin, the groom again insisted on the Bullet motorcycle as dowry. The bride’s family was shocked and refused to give in to the demand. The situation quickly became tense, and seeing the groom's greed, the bride decided to call off the wedding. She wiped off her sindoor and declared, “No dowry, only the bride.”

Police Intervention: Efforts were made to persuade the groom, but when he refused to back down, the matter escalated to the local police station. The groom’s family was stunned by the bride's decision, and attempts to convince her were unsuccessful. The bride remained firm in her decision. Her father, distressed by the broken engagement, fell ill and had to be treated. Later, both parties went to the Chalesar police station, where talks were held from 12 PM to 8 PM. Ultimately, both families reached a compromise, agreeing to return the wedding items, and the baraat returned without the bride.

This incident sends a strong message against the practice of dowry and serves as an inspiration for women who refuse to compromise on their self-respect.
